Spotify announces Yemi Alade as Equal Africa Artist

Afro-pop singer Yemi Alade has been awarded September’s EQUAL Africa Artist by the online music streaming service Spotify.
This was revealed in a statement released on Friday in Lagos by Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa.
“Spotify EQUAL Africa programme is dedicated to empowering female voices in Africa, spotlighting artists
who continue to push boundaries with their artistry.
“Yemi Alade exemplifies the calibre of talent the programme aims to support.” The head of music stated,
“Spotify is proud to be associated with Yemi Alade and will continue to use the EQUAL Africa programme to support women in music, amplify their voices and help to showcase their incredible talents to the global audience.” She added.
With a career spanning more than ten years, Okumu noted that Alade made a name for herself as one of the most well-known and significant female musicians in the Nigerian music scene.
According to her, this has given the Afropop genre an avid fan base both domestically and abroad.
“Alade’s undeniable talent and powerful voice have captivated audiences across continents, as she collaborated with global superstars
such as Beyoncé, Angélique Kidjo and Awilo Longomba.
“She has also toured the world, showcasing the rich beauty of African music, captivating audiences across continents and cultures.” She said.
