Senegal Star says AFCON organizers are corrupt
Senegal winger, Krepin Diatta has accused organizers of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as corrupt after the Teranga Lions beat Ivory Coast on Monday, January 29, 2024.
The 24-year-old Monaco player alleged this in a chat with France 24, where he criticized the center referee, Referee Pierre Ghislain Atcho, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and CAF staff in the mixed zone for not calling for not awarding Senegal a penalty.
‘You have killed us. You are corrupt,’ Diatta affirmed after the final whistle. ‘Keep your African Cup’.
‘You got to the VAR to give them a penalty, while our guy (Sarr) picks up the ball 40 metres from goal, goes on a run into the box and you don’t want to go to VAR?’ Diatta added, accusing gathered officials.
‘I’m sorry, but that is going to far. I’m really sorry, but they have killed our competition.’
Ivory Coast had ousted Senegal 5-4 on penalties to qualify to the quarter finals of the tournament.
