Davido reveals why his Dad finally allow him pursue music

During a recent interview, Davido talked about his early career and how he eventually gained his father’s blessing to do music.

The Nigerian Musician recounted the infamous story of how against the wishes of his father, he left studying in Atlanta to pursue his musical career in Nigeria, which ultimately resulted in his father having him imprisoned.

“I don’t think he didn’t want me to do music, he just wanted me to be successful as whatever I did because he got a blueprint for me already,” Davido spoke about his father’s initial disapproval of his desire to pursue music.

“He’s so supportive and he checks on everything…My dad picks my album. When I am done, I send him all the tracks and my dad goes through all the records and gives me a paragraph each,” Davido describes how his father now shows him genuine interest and encouragement.

He laughed as he shared the story of how he returned to Nigeria against his father’s will and was arrested by his father after performing for the first time at the age of 17. “My dad gave me the name Davido…The first show I did, he arrested me, the fans, the promoters,”  He also went on to talk about how his father insisted that he complete his education. “He just wanted me to finish school,”

When asked when his father realized that his music was becoming popular, the three-time Grammy nominee said it was when the president used his hit song “Dami Duro” as his ringtone.
Davido said; “When my song was the president’s ringtone,”

Although he made no mention of the president or the nation, Davido is probably referring to the former Nigerian President Good luck Jonathan, who presided over the country from 2010 to 2015.

Davido also discussed his intentions as a businessman outside of music during the interview.
He disclosed that he owned Coco House; a production company that he describes as a media outlet for creatives.
He also mentioned his intention to enter the cryptocurrency space.
