Cubana Chief Priest Cleared of Naira Abuse Charges by EFCC”

Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, will not be charged with abusing the naira by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) or face a bail of #10 million.

The Federal High Court in Lagos State, presiding over by Justice Kehinde Ogundare, has granted #10 million in bail to businessman and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, along with two sureties of an equal amount.

According to reports, the internet personality entered a not-guilty plea to allegations of manipulating and misusing Nigerian cash.

The Central Bank Act of 2007 was allegedly broken by the Cubana Chief Priest when he appeared before Justice Kehinde Ogundare to answer three allegations of abusing the naira by spraying and tampering with it during a social gathering.

The incident is said to have happened at the Eko Hotel on February 13, 2024.

The offences were allegedly committed by Cubana Chief Priest as he was dancing at a social function.

It is said that he dispersed the #500 notes, which were issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria, through spraying for two hours.

According to the court documents that were cited; count 1 of the charges alleged that “you, Okechukwu Pascal, on 13th Feb. 2024, at Eko Hotel, within the jurisdiction of the court, while dancing during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of ₦500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same for two hours, and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007”.

In count 2, it was alleged, “that you Okechukwu Pascal sometime in 2020, in Lagos during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of ₦500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same for two hours, and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007”.

In Count 3, it was alleged, “that you Okechukwu Pascal sometime in January 2024, in Lagos during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of ₦500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007”.
