Nigerian chef Hilda Baci is in the mood of celebration this week to commemorate the first anniversary of her cooking marathon which was officially acknowledged as a Guinness World Record in 2023.

On May 12, 2024, Baci shared memories of the group effort that went into her attempt to win the cookathon a year ago on her Instagram account. She declared with great happiness that a five-day celebration of her record would take place.

She began, “On this day one year ago we began the official attempt that made history.”

“At about 5 pm on the 12th of May, I turned on the gas for the very first time only to be turned off on the 17th of May 5 days later 😊 so yes we have a 5-day long anniversary and I’m here for it,” she added.

The world record holder acknowledged that it took a large team of about 100 individuals to pull off the cookathon and thanked everyone who helped make it happen.

“I could not have done it firstly without my team the alpha team, that was the first point of contact that helped my very big dream come true so naturally the first celebration point will be the Alpha team and heads of departments. I mean, it was such a big team of about 100 people to put the experience of the year together and I’m thankful for them every single day,” she concluded.

Hilda Baci broke the previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes set by Lata Tondon of India in 2019 when she cooked for more than 100 hours in May 2023 when thousands of Nigerians came to Amore Gardens in Lekki to support her endeavour and she prepared hundreds of delicious dinners to feed them.

Nigerians worldwide enthusiastically cheered her on, both in person and online as she made her effort. Until the very end of her endeavour, she also received visits from thousands of well-wishers, politicians, influencers and celebrities.

She was formally recognised as the World Record holder in June. However, timing problems during her breaks caused her official record time to be estimated at 93 hours and 11 minutes. She joyfully accepted her official diploma from the GRW body later that month.
