Rising Nollywood star Chimezie Imo’s debut movie to feature at Essence Film Festival in July
In July 2024, the Essence Film Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana will have the debut of Strawberry Chinny, a film produced by Nollywood’s rising star Chimezie Imo.
Meanwhile, Chimezie Imo has never produced a movie before.
The Nollywood Actor has starred in various Big-budget Nollywood blockbusters like Breath of Life (2023), Sista (2022) and Blood Covenant (2022).
The Essence Film Festival features panel discussions, seminars, celebrity speeches, events, and more in addition to original films, episodic projects, animation, podcasts, and new media.
Its objective is to bring attention to African innovators and worldwide Black stories.
In Strawberry Chinny, Genoveva Umeh plays Nigerian makeup artist Chinny, who after being left by her partner, moved in with her childhood best friend Ifeanyi, played by Chimezie in a chaotic living arrangement.
The movie was produced by Kele, Ngozi Okafor, and Imo and directed by Cheta Chukwu, the film also features Obehi Aburime and Modola Osifuwa.
Strawberry Chinny has been selected to participate in the Essence Film Festival’s Cultural Connections section. The festival will take place from July 4-7 2024.
In an emotional Instagram post, Chukwu, the director of the film shared the trailer for the upcoming movie and thanked his team for the success of the movie.
He wrote, “Excited to share the official trailer to our new rom-com STRAWBERRY CHINNY made with the love and commitment of some of the most amazing cast and crew who poured their hearts into this film. Films are only possible with a community.”
