Davido’s Music producer Napji cry out about Unpaid royalties

Napji, the producer who has produced three tracks, including the huge hit song “FEM,” of Davido’s third album “A Better Time,” is complaining about unpaid publishing and royalties.
On April 22, 2024, Napji claimed in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account that he received 500,000 Naira apiece for producing the songs “FEM,” “Jowo,” and “Sunlight” off Davido’s 2920 album ” A Better Time.”
The producer of all three of the tracks, Napji, acknowledged that he had not yet received his royalties or publication but pledged to provide additional details as he worked to obtain them.
“I am Napji, producer behind Fem, Jowo and sunlight on @davido album (A better time).Which was released 13th November 2020. I was paid an advance of 500 thousand naira for each of the songs. I will be releasing more information as I seek to collect my royalties & publishing,” the tweet reads.
One of the album’s lead hits, “FEM,” went on to become a big hit and one of the anthems during the 2020 #ENDSARS nationwide protest.
On YouTube, the song has received over 33 million plays, while on Spotify, it has about 10 million plays.
With over 53 million views on YouTube and 26 million Spotify plays, “Jowo” was also a commercial win.
Following industry standards, Napji is entitled to a 50% publishing right on the song, which means he will receive a portion of the streaming earnings the song has accumulated over time.
In response to Napji’s allegation that he is entitled to outstanding royalties, the Grammy-nominated superstar, Davido posted “Ur Papa” in response to Napji’s post on X.
Although Napji’s claim is unclear based on Davido’s tweet, it is anticipated that additional information will become apparent when Napji releases the material he had promised in order to pursue publication and royalty claims.
