AFCON: Super Eagles beat Ivory Coast, move to second in Group A
Nigerias Super Eagles, yesterday, January 18, 2023, defeated host nation Ivory Coast at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Both teams failed to score any goal in the first half.
Victor Osimhen missed a good chance to give the Eagle’s side a leverage in the first half as he kicked the ball over the bar after Samuel Chukwueze gave a fine pass.
But, in the second half, William Troost-Ekong, Super Eagles captain gave Nigeria a headway through a powerful penalty.
The match eventually ended 1-0 in favour of the Super Eagles.
The tournament was played at the Olympic Stadium in Ebimpé.
This result moved the Super Eagles to second position in Group A with four points from two games.
